Check out "Mr. Right Opinion" in my "Blogs I like" list

He's got an important message about Nightline tonight. May be huge news and it may not be, but the guy who's breaking it is John Loftus who is an extremely well-connected intelligence agent who used to be on a Sunday 11:00 a.m. program on Fox News. I'm not sure he's there anymore.
I'll be watching Nightline tonight, but a great recap of the story is on Mr. Right's blog.

 Excellent new blog

Boss Dan's blog "Right Park" is highly entertaining and well-written. There's a link to it in my "blogs I like" section. I think you'll like it, too.

Now we know who the Washington insiders are...

Finally, it has become clear.

I was so angry. I was livid. I have never been more upset than when I found out that the Dick Cheney shooting incident was released to a local paper before the Washington Press Corps. I demand an investigation.

Well......not so much.

This Washington Press corps reminds me of that old MTV program called the "Real World". It was a pack of spoiled, self-obsessed rich kids with no morals and a trunk-full of expectations of the world.

Note to radical, disconnected, self-important blatherers: Everything isn't Watergate. And you're not in journalism school anymore. Real people are watching.

This is exactly why I watch Fox News.

A message from an Iraqi mayor to the troops

A must read for anyone who wants to hear Iraqi voices about our operation in Iraq. This mayor apparently wrote several letters. The language carries the Arab flair, but the point is clear.

 Democrats lead by 8 points

..in the latest generic party vote for Congress. 42-34. That's a pretty wide margin, though a little less than the 11 point lead they held a month ago.

In 1994, the Democrats led until the final weeks, only to see over 50 seats in the house move to Republicans.

Which makes this very interesting. With scandal on the Republican side, this would seem the Democrats year. But I don't sense any real momentum. If you look at Senate races, there are a few of the Republican seats in real danger:

Rhode Island: Erstwhile Republican Lincoln Chafee may lose in the primary, which would hand the seat to the Democrats.
Pennsylvania: Rick Santorum will lose to pro-life Democrat Casey.
Missouri: Jim Talent is only even at this point, which looks very bad.
Montana: Conrad Burns is perpetually on the edge. This time is no different.
Tennessee: Harold Ford is dead even in the race to replace retiring Bill Frist.
Ohio: Mike Dewine is in early danger.

However, there are a few Democratic seats in trouble:

Minnesota: (R) and (D) are currently tied in an increasingly Republican state for an open Senate Seat from a retiring Democrat.
Maryland: Black senate Republican candidate Michael Steele leads.
New Jersey: Tom Kean, son of the former governor, leads in this scandal-plagued state over appointed Democratic Senator Menendez.

I would put odds at a Democratic pickup of 2-3 seats this year, which would leave the Senate Republicans with 52 or 53 seats (and one of those that they'll lose was decidedly liberal in Chafee).

So the net result may not be terribly different than today. This is very important with regards to Supreme Court nominees. It seems clear to me that the next nomination will lead to the mother of all fights in the Senate and may leave us with the nuclear option exercised. That is, the elimination of the filibuster option in these cases. That would mean that a simple majority could approve the next justice and there are a couple of Democrats that notably vote pro-life in these votes.

By the way, this makes the race to replace the term-limited Republican Governor of New York extremely important since Hillary could leave that Senate seat for the White House in two years and the governor would name the replacement.

It will be very, very interesting.
