What a pathetic example of stupidity.
Well, I guess our Congress got what it wanted. Our ally, the UAE, has been duly insulted on the world stage for political gain (or cover, in the case of the Republicans).
Yes, the Chinese "run" the ports in the Pacific.
Yes, a British company was the one selling these rights to the UAE company.
No, the UAE company wouldn't have had anything to do with the actual security of the ports.
Yes, they've been an indispensable ally in the war on terror - that is, fighting AGAINST the terrorists even though they have much at risk in the matter.
But that didn't stop us from calling them the equivalent of untrustworthy, filthy terrorists in front of every other Muslim country on earth. And now, every radical Islamic hate peddler is using our stupidity to say:
"See, we told you. They HATE Arabs. This whole thing is just about hating Arabs. Now, in the name of Allah, kill the enemies of Islam."
But, I guess there are a few Congressmen who got some good TV airtime. So it was all worth it. Right?

An 8:45 update: Scrappleface has a hilarious faux headline that reads "Dubai firm sells port to Wal-Mart". I would laugh until I died.

So how many have we lost lately?
Don Knotts Dennis Weaver Kirby Puckett Dana Reeves
There's been a rash of losses. The Mayberrry marathon over the weekend (I caught a couple of episodes) seemed like it was from 100 years ago, not 40 years ago.
The world is changing.

Note to those who would like to blame the President for lost jobs in the American auto industry:
Consumer Reports has a new top 10 list of cars for 2006.
All 10 of them are Japanese.
Maybe that's why.
But competition is a wonderful thing. We've responded before and we'll respond again. GM and Ford will adjust and come back - after they deal with some contract issues.
And the consumer will win.

I know. I know. As if....
But here's the thing. The President has blundered and stumbled through his second term. While the old adage has never been more true..."when your enemy is killing himself, don't get in the way", it seems like the Presidents enemies just can't help going one step too far.
Thank goodness for small favors.
What I mean is this. The President mishandled the Katrina disaster. His administration, FEMA specifically, wasn't ready and he didn't personally respond well. That's a given. But that's not enough for those who hate Republicans...and by this I mean the MSM.
So the AP misrepresents a story about a video they got their hands on showing the Presdient being briefed before the hurricane. Their headline gives you the impression he was made aware of the impending disaster - remember that their mantra for the last 5 years has been 'Bush lied'. The only problem is that it just didn't bear out in the video.
Well now there's a report of the Democratic governor of Louisiana telling the administration that the levees were holding just fine. The difference is that this one is accurate.
Will the media run that story? That's a far bigger story in this disaster than their made-up scandal.
I'm not holding my breath.
But this is exactly why (note: CBS News 10% audience today) people are turning to Fox News, to blogs and to other internet sources in increasing numbers for their news. Their getting a little tired of Cliff Claven's take on the days events.

I heard about the girl in New York who was horribly, brutally killed. It seems like there has been more of this going on lately.
Two days ago, a work van near our house with two Hispanic men was pulled over to the side of the road. When a policeman approached the van a woman screamed for help and the two men opened fire on the policeman and sped away. They're still looking for the van.
We don't have to go far to see the brutality of evil in the world. Someday it will be eradicated, but not while this world is still spinning. You just can't put your faith in this life. I'm thankful that there is another, better place.
