..is that the most liberal Republican could keep control of every committee and every sub-committee in Republican hands for at least another two years.

It could mean that President Bush is able to get Supreme Court nominees through - despite a Chafee vote against them, as in the case of Samuel Alito - because Republicans will run the Senate Judiciary committee.

Though Chafee opposes the war in Iraq, it could mean that those who also oppose the war will not have the myriad of Senate investigations they intensely desire targeting the White House.

It could mean that those who think like him and vote like him won't have a voice because of the one vote he'll cast first in each of the next six years.   The leadership vote.

Politics is strange.

There's an old saying that says:

And if you're not a conservative when you're old, you don't have a brain.

So true.

It was $78 just a few weeks ago. The glut that's forming on the world market should continue to drive it lower.

The Saudis announced a $50 billion investment into their oil infrastructure.

Meanwhile an international agency has lowered their estmates of future consumption.

Both should work together (along with easing of Iran concerns) to continue the drop in prices at the pump.

And that should grow the U.S. economy, create jobs, lower the deficit, etc.

Thank goodness.
