This may be a slight stretch - I'm sure you'll let me know if it's too far - but I think the fallout from the Pope's comments help the Republicans.
Tonight on the news we got to see angry Iraqis burning the Pope in effigy. Because of words.
Let me say that again. Because of words.
I know this can't be all of Islam. There are too many peaceful, generous people living in the world and following Islam for it to be all there is.
But it's the angry, irrational, extreme Islamic bent of those who would celebrate the death of their enemies and force others to follow their beliefs - who would ride a bike with explosives tied to them into a group of children getting candy from Canadian soldiers as happened this week.
This is the branch of Islam that brought us September 11th in the first place.
Maybe the Pope should have kept his mouth shut, but the response has been crystal clear. And the world is still a terribly dangerous place. And I think the Republicans look better prepared and more willing to recognize the threat and to fight it before it hits again.
