 $2.14 a gallon and holding

So OPEC announced that they were discussing the price of oil and that stopped the drop temporarily.

But the glut of oil on the market and the out-of-kilter price due to threats from world events, hurricanes, Alaskan supplies, crazy Venezuelans, etc leave the price still a good deal higher than it should be.  Will it resume its fall from its artificial high?

Well, there's a saying.  Something that can't last forever.....won't.

See you at $1.99 gas, baby.

Soon.

Too funny.. what the media didn't show you

Here's quote from the Real Clear Politics web site. It's from an interview with John McCain and it is very telling about the disastrous plans the Democrats have for Iraq and the media that forgot to mention it to the world.

"By the way, I don't mean to stray from the subject but a really entertaining thing happened day before yesterday. The Democrats had this hearing with two generals and a colonel, and it was a Rumsfeld-as-pinata encounter. But the interesting thing is that at the very end they made a terrible, cardinal error: they asked the generals and the colonel what we should do and they answered "stay the course," "more troops," "can't afford to lose." Oops. Hearing over. I thought it was wonderful. I'm sure they weren't pleased to hear the generals say we need more troops and we have to stay the course and we can't afford to lose. I'm sure some staffer probably got reprimanded or fired for allowing such a question to be asked. "

They might as well have said "Your plans would plunge this world into chaotic terrorism, gentlemen".

 A few random thoughts

I may be in the smallest of minorities, but I like Liza Minelli. She was great in Arthur among all that banal silliness (which I loved).

President Bush seems sharper now for some reason. Maybe returning the partisan fire gets him fired up.

Colorado's football program is a disaster in every way. Is the administration avoiding the blame?

Richard Nixon had a dirty tricks team. Now it seems the Democrats have created a culture that encourages it...from the humiiliating Dan Rather episode to leaking of carefully chosen snippets of classified information (a felony) to Hilary's team smearing her husbands victims. They've picked up the Nixon baton and are running fast towards that stained goal. Remind me to send a Nixon bust to the DNC.

I saw a few minutes of Katie Couric on the CBS evening news. She wasn't bad, but the writing was as slanted as ever. Man, they hate Republicans over there.

USA Today's crosswords on-line are another example of how great it is to live in this country.

Zawahiri released a video calling Bush a liar. Who is he talking to? And Chavez called Bush the devil. If these guys keep it up, Bush will get a 3rd term.  Seriously, it's getting harder and harder to distinguish the quotes of the enemies of America from the quotes of the left in America.

I absolutely love baseball.  But it's too slow to watch on television.  Due to our kids growing up with multiple fast-paced inputs, baseball is poorly positioned to capture the next generation of viewers.

I don't drink.  I certainly don't mind people who do.  But I've noticed that for some people, every conversation at a social occasion eventually turns to alcohol.  Seems like a crutch.

I think Mitt Romney will be our next Republican President.  Either elected in 2008 or in 2012 if a Democrat wins in 2008.

It is tougher for kids to grow up today.  With sex and drugs fed to them on a daily basis through the media and their friends.  But the most pathetic to me are the parents who live vicariously through their kids, encouraging sexual "freedom" - overtly or not - and turning a blind eye to habits that will damage their kids for years to come.

 Rosie gives us some insight

A little peek under the hood helps us to understand how the car works.  And Rosie gave us that the other day when she commented that Christian conservatives were just as bad as Muslim fundamentalists.

Now Rosie has had her share of enemies in that group - from her leadership on lesbian issues to gay adoption - so it's understandable that she's bitter.  She's wrong, but it's understandable.

But the insight she gave us was how the hard left feels across the country.  As a recent Washington Times editiorial stated (paraphrased), the left in America believes that religious fundamentalists are the enemy.  They're called Baptists.

Ask a liberal leader (pick one: Kerry, Pelosi, Reid, Dean) if we're in a war, they're going to have a hard time giving a straight answer.  But ask about a social issue and they'll fire both cannons at religious conservatives.  Ironically, they then turn and say things like "why don't Christians vote for us, we're better for them".  They are better, if you think the Colonel was better for chickens.

Rosie let us in on her bitter distaste for Christians.  And so much more.

Oil drops below $60 a barrel

Bloomberg shows it at $59.68 at the moment.  And some experts say it could fall below $40 a barrel before running back up.  Short of any major world events, I would look for oil to drop below $55 a barrel by next week and gas at the pump to go below $2 in most places around the country.  Then we should see:

  • GDP projections raised from 2.6% to over 3% for the remainder of the year
  • Deficit projections fall
  • The Fed consider raising interest rates again to slow down a renewed economy
  • Job growth continue
  • Republicans elected

Nancy Pelosi's anti-Saudi comments last week may keep OPEC on the sideline for a little longer as oil prices drop, rather than a quick announcement about cutting production.
