 Ford vs Corker

I watched Harold Ford and Bob Corker deliver opening statements last night in a televised debate.

Ford will win.

Ford leads by 7 in Tennessee

This one is a shocker. But, as they say, it ain't over til it's over.

3 things to remember about this one.

  1. Corker is behind because Rebublicans haven't warmed to him - but as the day approaches, some will shift
  2. There is a consistent trend in races like this with a black candidate. People lie to pollsters. They say they'll vote for the black candidate, but then results indicate they didn't. That will be a shift of a few points on election day
  3. Ford has a few issues that could cost him dearly with conservative Tennessee voters as the Republican money pours in to this race. He is liberal, his family is corrupt and he has contradicted himself on several occasions. IF Republicans can define him, they'll take his numbers down signficantly.

All that said, it's late in the game and Ford is looking much, much better than expected. This is definitely a bellweather race on election day.

Is North Korea trying to re-elect Republicans?

Doesn't Kim know that he's knocking Foley off the front pages (no pun intended with the pages thing)?

What's next?  Osama hurling a nuke at Israel?

This is the Democrats worst nightmare.  It brings all the focus to terrorism and foreign affairs in an extremely dangerous world.  And it's one of the few things people trust Republicans with more than Democrats.

Politics is never dull.

Does the U.S. have the moral authority...

...to condemn a nuclear test?

Does it make sense for us to have these weapons and to tell others that it's immoral for them to have them?

 North Korean nuclear test

There are two interesting things about this.

First is how China and the rest of the world respond.

Second is how the major media keep this from overshadowing Foley, because this helps Republicans.

By the way, have you seen any stories about the gay wedding in Massachusetts this past weekend?

Don't look for it in the mainstream media. It would energize the Republican base.
