Megachurches are a playground for the devil, in my opinion. I know that sounds odd, but they breed pride which is the enemy of a godly spirit. The pride in the buildings, the programs, the music the benevolence ("look at what we gave to the victims of Hurricane Katrina", "look at the great things God is doing through us").
But Jesus was clear in Matthew 5-7 that Christian life is having a broken spirit (not proud); being a peacemaker (not going on TV to condemn New Orleans or homosexuals or anyone); mourning for their sins (not boasting about their accomplishments). And he goes on to say that you should not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. Then you won't be so proud of the numbers.
And it leads to the most heinous thing of all. It leads to the members being told (and believing) that everyone who disagrees with them is from Satan.
The solution? Throw off worldly possessions. Instead of building a mega-softball field or a mega-fellowship hall, give your money to the poor. Then you'll be blessed by God. Otherwise, you will reap what you sow (as in Jim Bakker; Jimmy Swaggert, Pat Robertson and the Colorado guy).
Were these bad people? Of course not. But they were enticed by their earthly empires and believed that it meant God was for them and everyone else was less than them.
If you're in a mega-church, the next time someone says "Satan is trying to stop me from doing this thing or that", tell them to listen again. It might be God they aren't listening to. And then leave and go about being a Christian.
